The three short stories, â€Å"A Good Man is Hard to Find†, â€Å"The Cask of Amontillado† and â€Å"The Devil† all revolve around the motifs of morality and extreme behavior. Each story commonly portrays how each character has a reason that drives and motivates their moral choices; however, the reasons differ between the three short stories. The short story, â€Å"A Good Man is Hard to Find†, demonstrates how the perception of â€Å"good† and â€Å"bad† is relative among individuals, which can lead to moral choices that would seem conflicting and morally-wrong to other individuals. The subjectivity between â€Å"goodness† and â€Å"badness† is as demonstrated through the contradicting and irreconcilable viewpoints and attitudes between the Misfit and Grandma. Although Grandma†¦show more content†¦Therefore, when Fortunato damages Montresor’s pride, he determines to seek revenge for his sense of reputation, so he doesn’t appear frail and inferior. Throughout the story, he has no sense of guilt, he can only think about killing Fortunato to redeem himself. Also, the wrongdoing of Fortunato was not addressed clearly and properly, which elicits doubt on the credibility of Montresor for the reader. Furthermore, Fortunato seems to be very carefree, which suggests that Fo rtunato is unaware of his wrongdoing and a biological mechanism such as insanity might be driving Montresor’s moral choices. The short story, â€Å"The Devil†, examines how the need and instinct of survival grow under tense circumstances, which becomes the primary priority and can override overturn our morals. One prime example is the farmer, Honore. All children live under a social expectation of serving and taking care of their parents when they grow up, however, this is not the case in this particular story. Yet the work could still exist as an object, independent from the experience and those who approached it could remain merely viewers of the object. This understanding led Clark to avoid â€Å"fetishization† of the work as it resides in an institution and the work became focused on an event: an action that transforms the work. It is important to state that the request of Lygia Clark’s work to involve the body as a primary element should not be mistaken with a request to simply manipulate the objects presented, as was common with works presented at the time. In their letters, both Lygia Clark and Hà ©lio Oiticica insisted that their works differed from the others of their time. Even in our post-modern art world, it still seems logical to create that distinction. As is common in current art, the need for interactivity in the work requires that both the body manipulation the object and the object itself, in a relational form, requires that both be considered art objects. Basically understood, relationally based art defines the art object as the relation between the object

Business Challenges and Research Directions of Management

Question: Discuss about the Business Challenges and Research Directions of Management. Answer: Introduction With information systems growing popularity, the importance of database management system and business intelligence has grown well. The increasing technology demand has been the sole reason for such development. Traditionally, the commercial and technical limitation as well as cost complexities came into the way of such development. Many of the barriers and limitation has been removed with the new technologies like Hadoop, NoSQL and Oracle Exadata (Wixom et.al. 2015). Business Intelligence System integrated with the big data analytics has helped in serving the organization better. It provides wider, more broad and explanatory view into the working of the business. This system improves the performance management, reporting and visualization of an organization. The system used data for this purpose, however lately the ever-increasing data is becoming a mess for which the big data and its related analytics tools comes in handy (Sharda, Delen and Turban 2013). The present essay analyzes the interrelation of these three major technological components which are Big data, Database system and business intelligence. This three can be considered under a one main topic which is Information System. The essay will reflect light on the importance of the data and how it is being utilized in the todays business world. Findings and Analysis Big Data can be generally termed as the data of the organization which needs to managed stored and be accessible. However, the point which makes it vastly different from the data is its size which makes s it to be known as big data. The size makes it difficult for us to capture, manage and store it with the normally used software tools (Kambatla et.al. 2014). The whole process of big data analytics incorporates the huge size of data its complex process of analysis and well defined technologies for tackling it. The origin of such huge amount of data can be traced back to the big companies like Amazon, Google and Facebook unable to handle their massive social media data. These companies moved into developing such technologies and tools which could help them analyze their data (Xue 2015.). Such tools were developed so that the cost can be reduced cutting down the cost on the hardware in use and utilization of open source software. With the emergence of Big Data, we have witnessed the de velopment of Information system in much broader way. The four Vs of the Big Data are its main principle and it could be well defined with help of it. Big Data Vs are: Volume: This signifies the size of the data in a company. The data collected or managed in an organization can be much huge as 10s of petabytes or it can be 10s of terabyte. This makes it necessary to not to analyze the data in terms of numbers rather it would be far useful to analyze it in terms of volume (Katal, Wazid and Goudar 2013). Variety: Big Data can be of two of the variety which is semantics and syntax. The data in past were difficult to be structured as the data were free text. However, now the data could be more easily assembled with the help of the Business Intelligence tools which can deal with any syntax data arriving virtually. Such provisions provide much flexibility to the business information and its remodeling. Velocity: The extraction of data and its collection is now being more in real-time requires organization to gear up so that its utilization may occur in a faster fashion. Yet the time for execution of a process after analysis may get delayed because of the sub-optimal process included. Value: Commercial value of any data is very important for an organization and requires analysis in time or may be ahead of time so that it can help in projecting the Return of Investment. Without such technology it is difficult to keep a track of the payback period of a project and its ROI reducing the chances of attracting funds. Big Data and related tools may make a major impact on such projects. Nevertheless the Big data adoption yet faces several questions on the authenticity of the analysis provided by the data and its level of certainty on trusting which a business can precede further (Assuno 2015 ). Well-developed and structured schema should only be applied so that this Business Intelligence tool does not loses trust of people and be abandoned in future. Business Analytics or intelligence work very closely with the Big data so as to empower organization with several advantages like providing better insight into the information, enhancing the services being provided to the customers and other sectors, and identifying of micro-trends which could help in optimizing the ones identified as useful. It has become so essential because of the increased safety security and reliability it provides to the distributed system (Chen, Mao and Liu 2014). It enhances the internal process of decision making. It can generate reports if fraud detection is done on basis of customer profiles along with supporting the management team with better functioning of the business. It has been described by Moniruzzaman and Hossain (2013) as a systematic flow of Business information, its acquirement and analysis. For better understanding we can identify its division under internal and external business intelligence. This two together forms the way towards the compet itive advantage of the business. Internal Business intelligence works to protect and utilize the internal data present with the organization while the external Business Intelligence helps in gathering and analyzing the data (Kwon, Lee and Shin 2014). Such collaboration of internal and external BI along with the tangible and non-tangible asset helps in serving the organization with competitive advantage in the market. Business intelligence completely depends upon the management and analysis of the data. Internet Data mining and Database serving as data ware house forms the backbone of this whole process. Though the interconnection of all three makes it much complex and complicated yet these are essential parts of the working of such a system. This will take us towards describing the Information management system which lays the foundation of whole system. It is the first step towards Data management (Bello-Orgaz, Jung and Camacho 2016). Before any of the data is analyzed it requires storing of data at a place form where it can be accessed and utilized. Effective data mining and storage of such piece of asset enhances the potential of the information collected. Business intelligence should make sure of the latency and data trustworthiness. The storage of the data collected has to be secured maintaining the privacy required by the organization. Database systems are critical and ubiquitous component of modern way of computing. Earlier such systems were not present and all the data accumulation was in the paper format. With the development in technology the growth of such systems were seen where the data collected can be used by multiple user on basis of their access level (Singh 2015). These systems are developed so as to store data in an organized fashion and can be accessed by many on need basis. The systems developed are the software which allow data independence, control, redundancy, security, allow concurrency, provide backup for recovery issue and perform data optimization. The people involved around this system are the analyst, database administrators, database designers, application developers and related users (Zhao, Fan and Hu 2014). The most basic concept on which the whole system is developed is the concept of sets. The data fetched are categorized as entities and relation are developed between them on the basis of which later the whole system works out. Every attribute here signifies some relation between entities which helps in categorizing them. After categorizing they will help the user in analyzing the data stored better. The relationship can be recursive in nature and thus can be useful for the data structure. The importance of the database can be highlighted for maintaining relationship between data. These can be handled through programs. The system allows officials to understand and manipulate the essential statistics for the management of the organization available data (Saltz 2015). Not only has this it played an important role in managing the access and authorization level of the people for the system. The structured query language ease the process by allowing the access, providing updating and deleting feature for the data storage. This responsibility is shouldered by the database administrator. The database administrator plays a vital role in maintaining the database, working on its testing production and training. The installation, configuration, migration of the database is also the responsibility of the Database Administrator (De Mauro, Greco and Grimaldi 2015). Handling of the proper implementation of the recovery and backup policy is done by DBA. A Database Administrator should have a good understanding and knowledge of the operating system and related software. To create a better understanding of the database management a relevant case study can be explained. The case of a multi specialist hospital can be considered with several departments dealing with different ailments and its treatment. A need for designing and developing a database was identified as the management required a proper maintenance of the data of the patient and the doctors attached to the institution (Haux et. al. 2013). The database has been considered to maintain the records of the all the patients coming to the hospital for general checkups or getting admitted and operated at the organization along with their discharge details. Different entities need to be identified on the basis of the departments present in the hospital. The hospitals maintains a card system which the patients being admitted are provided with all their details for example the department they are being treated at, the doctor he or she has been referred to, the amount they have to pay, the amount the patient has paid, the amount that is due. Some other entities include the date being admitted the date he or she is being relived. The room the patient has chosen or the room they have been allocated, the tests being performed, the charges applicable, and the doctors charges all has to be assigned under some entities (Isik, Jones and Sidorova 2013). The database also has to maintain the doctor list separately having the records of regular doctors and the doctors on call. The unique entities are identified and are worked on. This way the development such a database will help the officials to check and maintain the records in all which can later also be used as a research data. Taking about the Information System we can say that it forms an integral part for any organization or business. Such system helps in better decision making and management of the activities on going in the organization. Management has to perform four important functions namely Planning, Organizing, Controlling and Directing which all depends upon the Information system (Vossen 2014). Decision making in an organization is a very crucial and needs to be addressed with utmost care. Information System provides an effective way of dealing with decision making in the organization (Calof, Richards and Smith 2015). The managers and higher officials can make use of the information provided by the system to define and constructs the problem, on basis of which the solutions are posed and the right alternative is selected. This makes it easier to review the records and take decision accordingly. Recommendations According to the analysis and findings certain recommendations can be made which emphasizes on the improvements under the context of Business Intelligence, Bid Data and Database. Collaboration for Business Intelligence: The Business Intelligence requires more of sharing and discussing for the better inflow of the accumulated data. It has to be bi-centric and is much preferable among the employees which can be maintained by building up a collaborative culture in the organization. Predictive analytics in Business Intelligence: This powerful tool should be implemented in the Business Intelligence for the prediction of the price optimization and the demand forecasting which would surely revolutionize the productive capability of any organization. Backup and Virus Scanners for the database: The database for organization requires scanners and virus detectors as the information being stored at such places are vulnerable to threats and consists important information of the particular organization breaching of which may lead to a great loss on the company side. One single Format for the Big Data extracted: Development of such platforms which can adjust and structure the data from different platform into a single platform in a correct format. Conclusion Advancement in Information System creates potential for better Business Intelligence and analytics. This provides accurate and rapid dissemination of information in the external or the internal environment of the organization. The tools and analytics used help in better understanding the scenario the organization is facing. The storage tool that is the database is the most essential tool for such operations as this provides a perfect platform for the arrangement of every kind of information in a better assembled way. Every organization needs a proper infrastructure for the information collection, distribution and assessment. Conclusively, it can be said that the need of analyzing the immediate and real-time data being gathered at a place is fulfilled by the collaboration of the three vital aspects which are Business Intelligence analytics, Big Data and Database management. The combination of three is fueling the power of todays Information Management System. I feel that these aspects play vital role and promises a better future and may become the foundation of the most awaited inventions of Artificial Intelligence. References Rahm, E., 2016. Relevance Of Identifying Peoples Needs And Strengths Social Work Essay Essay Example

Relevance Of Identifying Peoples Needs And Strengths Social Work Essay Essay Explain the Relevance of placing Peoples demands and strengths, Respecting Diversity and advancing recovery in support of your working pattern. Identifying clients demands and strengths, esteeming diverseness and promoting recovery are portion of my voluntary function, playing an of import portion in the intervention procedure and the service of Addaction. How they are identified, the ground they are used and their function in the client s journey will be incorporated in explanatory statements and brooding transitions utilizing Schons Reflection on Actions ( 1983 as cited in Powell 1989 ) . Identifying a client s demands and strengths is accomplishable through appraisal and working in partnership. Assessment is the chief tool used to place demands and strengths, fiting the type of curative intercession and strength with the demands of the client. Appraisals, though portion of initial showing, are ongoing procedures, demands change and without continual monitoring and reappraisal throughout intervention, support and intercessions can go unengaged to the persons demands. Effective appraisals direct the execution of comprehensive attention and support, bearing relation to the effectivity of intervention and positive results, profiting client s, particularly those with complex demands, . Where appraisal must be done by legion services, partnership across subjects ensures continuity of intervention and support provided. It enables intervention to be client focused and adaptable increasing the prosperity of that procedure. Motivation of current and future actions and purposes can be identified from a client s demands and strengths, authorising the client, giving appropriate support and entree to services. Interventions must be bases on the motives of clients, advancing battle in services at the most appropriate degree to accomplish their ends. The procedure of placing demands and strengths is every bit of import as the execution of the information gained. Inaccurate or omitted information effects subsequent service actions negatively ; this is magnified in intervention results, so competence degrees, engagement and accounts of procedures must be carefully considered and comparative to the client. Using internal frames of mention and sensitiveness are of import, giving penetration into the client state of affairs and demands from a subjective point of view, easing good communicating enables accurate information to be gathered bring forthing effectual service actions. The demands and strengths of a client can impact how attention programs and actions are achieved and the method in which they are delivered. They enable the client to joint their ends ; immediate, short term and long term and set programs into gesture whilst integrating what they need, what they want and what they are good at. It allows prevention/coping methods to be put in topographic point for accomplishments they feel they lack or are unfamiliar with, reappraisal allows feedback of the effectivity of these schemes. Throughout intervention demands and strengths vary, physical and mental demands can impact positive or negative intervention consequences and being cyclic the intervention itself can hold bearing on physical and mental demands of a client. Therefore continual reappraisal both of intervention and demands are of import to keep balance, integrate focal point and guarantee the relevancy of intercessions. Reappraisal of demands and strengths is a valuable tool, enabling clients to supervise their advancement constructively and from both sides of the practitioner/client relationship. This enables accommodations and contemplations on intervention, ends and back up on a regular basis affecting battle and engagement from both sides. In order to accomplish an effectual system that meets the single intervention demands of substance misusers, there needs to be in topographic point a procedure of showing, appraisal, care co-ordination and intervention reappraisal. ( Department of Health, 2002, p8 ) On contemplation, when a client is referred to our service a comprehensive appraisal is done and identifies demands in different ways. Hazard appraisals, attention programs and ends, purposes and nonsubjective exercisings identify demands and strengths and integrate them in intervention intercessions. Clients are encouraged to analyze their demands and reflect on state of affairss on a regular basis, placing missing accomplishments and extra demands utilizing personal ends sheets. This helps measure intervention, enables a better apprehension of purposes and strengths, reassesses demands and strengthens partnerships. Ultimately by understanding the demands and strengths of a client societal inclusion and recovery is promoted. The appraisal and intervention procedure must integrate personal, societal, cultural and religious demands of the client s individuality, the appraisal and the designation of these demands aids in re- affirming forgotten and unacknowledged demands, in their current life style, to the client. Diversity brings profusion of experience, cognition and apprehension of the practician and client, developing and bring forthing common regard and credence. Diverseness enables both growing and development, making flexible positions and consideration of alternate values. Open mindedness, positive respect and non-judgemental patterns heighten the practitioner/client relationship, exciting communicating and penetration, obtaining positive intervention consequences by admiting and esteeming diverseness. Respecting diverseness enables tailored insight into the clients values and rules, intervention respectful of their diversenesss can be incorporated into attention and support, heightening the experience and result. Servicess have an duty to follow with current statute law to advancing diverseness, avoid favoritism and to admit and counterbalance for any troubles or boundaries caused by following a scheme positive to diverseness. All parts of appraisal and attention should embrace the person s demands in relation to diverseness. Issues of cultural diverseness and the development of culturally competent services are indispensable ingredients of effectual intervention systems. ( Department of Health, 2002, p28 ) Social exclusion through bias and favoritism, towards the client, can attest as struggle, verbal confrontation, perceived accusals or incrimination initiated by following patterns disrespectful of diverseness. Social inequalities can be highlighted through diverseness, recognition of difference and the fright of difference can show ambitious and emotional state of affairss. Such state of affairss if respectful of difference can prosecute, confront and offer insight though must let for sensitiveness and active engagement. Respecting diverseness within the work force is particularly relevant for those being treated for substance abuse, due to the scope of services and suppliers, from generic wellness attention, societal attention to condemnable justness. A diverse work force provides a high quality service with specializer accomplishment set and experiences heightening the intervention procedure for clients. ( Department of Health, 2002, P ) Understand and admiting diverseness was portion of my initial voluntary preparation, integrating the diverseness of clients and services. Our service has many different facets to it throughout the condemnable justness system, esteeming the diverseness of environments and clients are indispensable. Diversity preparation helps me acknowledge and understand environments and clients heightening my professional relationships and working patterns, inclusive of the diverseness of the squad that I work with. Within my voluntary arrangement, my two wise mans are from different back evidences, one is ex-police and the other is an ex-substance user. They bring different accomplishments, experiences, point of views and methods to the function but with the same rules and results, this benefits the clients and myself, giving a profusion and diverseness to my arrangement and the clients experience. Recovery is alone to the person, personalised to the client and subjective. To ease recovery it is of import to turn to the values and rules of practicians and clients, enabling apprehension, recognition and supplying a service based on the clients demands. In order for alteration to take topographic point, utilizing The Cycle of Change Model ( 1982 as cited in Davidson, R. 2002 ) , external state of affairss, ends, demands and strengths must be identified, even with the integrating of multiple issues, each must be considered on single virtue. Facilitation of alteration demands to be done by authorization of the client, enabling the apprehension of issues and execution of get bying schemes to be achieved. Recovery is seen to be an result of intervention, though in world it is a sequence of events, inclusive of exposures and dislocations that determine discoveries and accomplishments. Often these reverses are critical chances to turn, learn and alteration, facilitated by the practician, determined by the clients ain picks, actions and ends. Clients are experts in their ain recovery and experiences, engagement must be promoted around this cognition and penetration gained to present trim programmes of attention. To accomplish recovery focussed results, the intervention system needs to go more antiphonal to single demands. ( NTA, 2010, p5 ) Recovery may differ in reading inclusive of decrease, care, stabilization or abstention based ends, each determined by the client and of equality importance. Recovery includes the deduction of wellness instruction, hazard bar and injury decrease methods, drug usage though non desired is possible and recovery though accomplishable may non be lasting. Changeless appraisal, reappraisal and reappraisals are critical during the recovery procedure, turn toing multiple subjects and reexamining intercessions, clip to look into and research is necessary to ease alteration. To facilitated alteration the programme of attention must accommodate and react, advancing and believing in recovery. Hope is critical enabling the client to see that results are accomplishable, hope and belief in the client s possible is critical to alter and the success of implemented attention. There is ever hope of recovery and it is critical to pass on that from the start in all idiosyncrasies. ( Stickley A ; Basset, 2008, p133 ) On contemplation, our intervention programmes have clip restraints and though the foundations of recovery and the rhythm of alteration are implemented full recovery occurs outside our service. Our perceptual experience of recovery within our service is the designation of demands and strengths, the existences of alteration, hope and the belief that a client is get downing on their journey with the tools, ends, the service support required to accomplish their single recovery end. To reason strengths and demands, esteeming diverseness and promoting recovery are all critical parts of the intervention procedure, each facilitating and back uping the recovery procedure. Each is interconnected and interdependent in the execution of attention, intervention and the facilitation of recovery. The successful execution of each of these positively influences the possible intervention results for the client. Strengths and needs require ongoing appraisals and include esteeming diverseness within purposes and intercessions, which is portion of advancing alone recovery, enabling and authorising clients to accomplish their coveted ends. 1584

The Word of the Year 2011

The Word of the Year 2011 The Word of the Year 2011 The Word of the Year 2011 By Mark Nichol Each year at about this time, the English-language media rolls out various reports announcing the word of the year according to one or more authorities. These pieces imply or overtly suggest that these selections are keywords for our society’s values, beliefs, and obsessions. But a glance at such choices reveals that these words are the linguistic equivalent of candy satisfying (or not sometimes they’re the equivalent of chocolate-covered brussels sprouts) but not sustaining. The following lists of the top word for each year of the past decade suggest that one year’s byword can be the next year’s punch line (or a least a later period’s â€Å"Huh?†): Merriam-Webster 2010: austerity 2009: admonish 2008: bailout 2007: w00t 2006: truthiness 2005: integrity 2004: blog 2003: democracy American Dialect Society 2010: app 2009: tweet 2008: bailout 2007: subprime 2006: plutoed 2005: truthiness 2004: red state/blue state 2003: metrosexual 2002: weapons of mass destruction 2001: 9-11 (most often styled 9/11) Global Language Monitor 2011: occupy 2010: spillcam 2009: Twitter 2008: change 2007: hybrid 2006: sustainable 2005: refugee 2004: incivility 2003: embedded 2002: misunderestimate 2001: ground zero Oxford Dictionaries 2011: squeezed middle 2010: big society 2009: unfriend 2008: credit crunch 2007: footprint 2006: bovvered 2005: podcast 2004: chav Technological terms like app and tweet have variable staying power. Blog, which was ten years old when Merriam-Webster crowned it in 2004 (while app may be old enough to vote), isn’t going anywhere, nor is podcast. But eventually, many once popular terms evoke nothing more than a chuckle (â€Å"floppy disk,† anyone?). And to w00t, I say, â€Å"W00t-ever.† Jargon from economic and political contexts serves as a shorthand, but Steven Colbert’s brilliant-in-its-time truthiness is as stale as Bush-speak jokes (or perhaps I misunderestimate it), and â€Å"weapons of mass destruction† and embedded have acquired a derisive connotation their coiners did not intend. Variance in American English and British English is also an obstacle: Several of the Oxford Dictionaries selections are obscure to US readers. (â€Å"Big society† refers to localism in government, bovvered is part of a British TV character’s dismissive catchphrase â€Å"Am I bovvered?† and chav refers to a lumpen-prole UK subculture with a perplexing penchant for faux-Burberry plaid couture.) Environmentally oriented terms at least the ones in these lists seem to have legs: We’re still discussing sustainability and footprints (as in â€Å"carbon footprint†), though perhaps without the fresh vigor applied just a few years before. A couple of these lists offer a word of the year for 2011 (the other listmakers have not yet weighed in for the current year), but you are also entitled to your opinion. Innovation in Banking Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Innovation in Banking - Essay Example The purpose of this paper is to explore the technological determinist view of banking and the way in which it is causing changes in the society and customer behavior. The term technological determinism was first coined by Veblen, a sociologist in America and had later recurred in the works of a number of researchers. The fundamental idea behind technological determinism is that technology cannot be influenced by cultural and political forces as it has its own predictable and traceable path. Researchers have also suggested that once a technology has been introduced then it begins to show its effect on the society and the society supports further technological development. Though technological determinism has received its own share of criticisms, it remains as one of the most popular concepts of the 19th century. Technological determinism has been pointed as the key source that is driving competition in the global market in the present era. According to the research conducted by Chandl er, it has been found that technological determinism is the main reason that causes historical and social changes at a macro and social level. It was also pointed out in his research that technological determinism has the power to produce psychological influences on the minds of the consumers. According to the research conducted by Smith and Marx, it was established that technology can act as a major driver leading the path in which organizations and society are expected to behave in the future as successive innovations are introduced in the society.

Title- International Social Work. Question- How does the social Essay

Title- International Social Work. Question- How does the social construction of childhood inform and affect international child protection measures - Essay Example It is on account of these reasons that the international communities and organizations have taken active interest in promoting and protecting the interests and well-being of young children through introduction of effective laws. The UN Convention on the Rights of Child (CRC) is one such international body that seeks protection of children exposed to adversity and has included it as one of their key agendas. The child protection and welfare organizations have, over the years, actively supported and fought for safeguarding young children from intolerable conditions. They argued that a child comes into the world defenceless in the face of an aggressive and violent society and that he is the first to suffer the terrible consequences of famine, war and socioeconomic crisis (qtd. in James, 1997, pp. 191). Hence in order to uphold the moral and ethical values international agencies such as The International Union for Child Welfare, Defence for Children International, UNCRC etc seek the protection of such vulnerable groups in the society. This paper on international social work seeks to understand, assess and explore the role and impact of the concept of ‘social construction of childhood’ in the framin g of international child protection laws. The term social construction refers to the idea / notion that has been created by society. Sociologists argue that childhood is a socially constructed phenomenon since it varies across cultures and does not conform to any form of universal standard or definition. This is mainly because what is considered deviant behaviour in one culture may be considered completely normal and acceptable in another thus implying that the concept of childhood is more of a socially constructed term rather than a natural biological phase. According to Aries (1973) the concept of childhood did not exist in the middle ages (qtd. in Hunt, 2005). It is also argued

Afro-Caribbean Poetry Essay Example for Free

Afro-Caribbean Poetry Essay In this essay I will be studying the various items of poetry from manyAfro-Caribbean poets. One of the poets is Langston Hughes who was  born in Joplin, Missouri on the first of February 1902. He started  writing poetry after moving to Lincoln, Illinois. The poems I will be  studying are Mulatto and I, Too.  The next poet I will be looking at is Grace Nichols. Nichols was born  in Guyana in 1950, she came to England in 1977 this is when she  developed her fiction and verse writing. The poem I will be studying is  Praise song for my mother. The next poet I will look at will be Dr Benjamin Obadiah lqual  Zephaniah, he was born in Birmingham, but he spent most of his  time in Jamaica. After he spent some time in prison he decided to use  his energy for good and educate himself. The poem I will study I love  me mudder.  The last poet work I will be looking at will be John Agard. Agard was  born in Guyana in 1949, the country was still a British colony until  1966. In 1977 Agard moved to England. This is where he became the  light of the new West Indian British dawn of various bardic  compositions. Agard is a poet whom blends calypso styled language  with unique sounding spoken word. The work I will be studying is  Half-caste  I have paired the poems up. The pairs either share the same topic,  tone or language. One of the pairs is Half-caste by John Agard and  Mulatto by Langston Hughes, because they have the same type of  topic and also tone.  Half caste is about weather: the term half-caste can be applied to  any thing else apart from people. John Agard has written a very good  poem witch makes you think about the words we use every day with  out knowing the proper meanings and whether it makes any sense  when you break the word down. I think that many words we use now  are out of date and should be changed for politically correct terms  and alternatives. Agard also uses some stunning references to get you  thinking. The other half of this pair Mulatto tells us about the harsh  treatment black women faced at the hands of their white bosses in  the slave era and how the women were only used as play things, this  is shown in the part Whats a body but a toy?. The word mulatto  means the same as half caste but not as many people use it  nowadays. The boy in the story has a trouble fitting in with black  people and white people and does not have that sense of belonging if  he had been born to parents of the same race. The next pair is Praise song for my mother by Grace Nichols and I  love me mudder by Benjamin Zephaniah. Ive paired these poems  because they share the same topics which is their mothers.  Praise song for my mother is about how Grace Nichols loved her  mother and how she inspired to do the best she could. Its also how  she looked up to her, and how her mother was all the things she likes  such as the sunrise and the fried plantain smell. The poem is set in a  past tense which seems to tell us the readers that her mother has  died. The second half of my pair is I love me mudder. This poem is about  how Benjamin Zephaniahs mother came from Jamaica on a boat  called Windrush. Many people came from Jamaica because they  thought they would have a better life than the one they all ready had.  In black family family (need to delete this) life the figure of the  mother is very strong and is the main rule maker in the house, and  this poem shows how she works so hard just to make sure her familydont go without. The last pair of poems is taint by Grace Nichols and I, Too by  Langston Hughes these two poems have been joined together because  they both have kind of the same topic which shows the pain black  people have overcome but still yet we are strong.  taint is about the treachery that this person has had cast upon  them while they where a slave, the fact that they where stolen by men  the colour of their own skin. This reminds me of the black on black  gang warfare and killings. This person who trusted the people of their  same skin colour was betrayed. This work also shows how these  people where traded like they where animals. The poem has a  message to everyone: to stop fighting and live peacefully together.  The second half of the pair is I, Too which shows how black people  had to eat in a kitchen when company came but they ate well and  became strong. So when company comes no one will dare tell me to  eat in the kitchen and now you are ashamed about what you did to  me when I was mentally weak. This poem has a promise of hope for  Ã‚  change. Hughes suggests that Tomorrow things will be different and  people will see that beauty and equality of all peoples.

What is Curiosity Essay -- Psychology, Piaget

What is Curiosity, why do babies differ in intelligence, personality and characteristics as they grow up? Some people become good citizens, and some grow up to be bad citizens who become dangerous to the community. Philosophers tried to find out and explain these questions that were observed in individuals. There are many developmentalists whom offered different theories to explain human development. Theories of development include, psychoanalytic, learning, cognitive, biological and evolutionary, and system theories (Boyd, 2009), and we are discussing Piaget’s cognitive theory below. Jean Piaget was a Swiss psychologist, and his cognitive- development theory is one of the most influential theories in history. According to his theory, every individual begin their life with a little skills of motor and sensory scheme like looking, touching, hearing, reaching and tasting. In his theory, scheme is an internal cognitive structure that makes available a procedure to follow in a particular condition. Just like, when we pick up something, we use our picking up scheme, and throwing that thing to someone, we use our looking, aiming and throwing scheme. The scheme gets better or works better as we use every time. There are also mental schemes that allow us to think logically and use symbols. This scheme mostly develops during childhood and adolescence. Assimilation, equilibration and accommodation are three processes that Peaget proposed to explain how schemes used in childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Using scheme to make sense of experience or an event is t he assimilation process. Accommodation is the process of changing the scheme if there is some new information result. The third process equilibration is balan... ...ton of feathers? Both answered, a ton of stone and a ton of feathers is equal. So, I believe some children can be ready for some formal education earlier than age nine or ten. I also observed girls play differently, and like different toys than boys. Conclusion: Since human development explained differently by many developmentalists, some explanations are agreeable and some are not. But their ideas still influence many of us. The methods which are used to study children’s development, helps understand changes across the human lifespan. We have learned from Jean Piaget’s the cognitive theory that there are stages, and substages for logical thinking, and how the child builds different types of scheme, and the universal changes in thinking happen in the early childhood. I agree that this exercise assisted me to gain understanding the point of the theory. Pancreatic endocrine hormones Essay

Energy, in the form of sugar, is transported in the blood. It is carried throughout the body and into all cells to produce ATP. ATP is needed for all cellular activity of the body. It is essential that the blood can maintain the body’s fuel at a constant level (homeostasis) regardless of how long it has been since the last meal. There are three main organs that regulate the control of blood sugar: the pancreas, the liver and the adrenal glands. The pancreas produces hormones called insulin and glucagon. These hormones work antagonistically to maintain blood sugar levels that are neither too low or too high. The adrenal gland plays a key function in making sure blood sugar levels are high enough. The liver helps with sugar metabolism by creating insulin receptor sites. After a meal, insulin directs the flow of nutrients. This promotes fuel storage in the liver, adipose tissue and in muscles. The flow of nutrients during fasting is influenced by glucagon. Once glycogen stores are depleted, muscle protein is degraded, and amino acids are used for gluconeogenesis in the liver. Triglycerides stored in adipose tissue are broken down under the fasting condition. The concentration of glucose in the blood rises rapidly after the ingestion of glucose ( in a high carbohydrate meal). Insulin carries out its function and starts to bring blood glucose concentrations back down to normal, then this removes the stimulus that tells the beta cells to secrete the insulin in the first place. As a result, the beta cells become less and less stimulated and so the rate of secretion of insulin declines in parallel to the rate of decline in blood glucose concentration. This mechanism is referred to as negative feedback.

University Application

I would like to explain about work experience. From 2005 to 2007, I worked as a help desk technician for a high school affiliated to Korea University in Korea. I maintained roughly 400 desktops and supported technical works including backup, error corrections of desktops and printers, and unskilled user’s mistakes. I formatted and installed Windows OS and replaced main-board’s condenser, VGA, RAM, HDD, LAN card, and ODD. I installed a LAN line for new class rooms to be internet accessible. In 2008, as a system operator I worked for one of the biggest securities companies in Korea.I implemented a daily batch job involved opening and closing a stock market, processing deals in stocks, ERP, marketing and whole stock task with Solaris UNIX. I was involved in discussion on a modification of a batch job scheduling and maintained a batch job by documenting on a scheduled manual record and analyzing the dependency while recording the elapsed time. The next job that I worked for one of the biggest telecommunication companies in Korea, where I discussed about annual operational plan and held the responsibility of including DB running on AIX UNIX and CTI, IVR and recording servers running on Windows 2000.I did first-level troubleshooting and informed a person in charge of a server when the issues arose. I continued to work as a technical support specialist for Apple in 2011 in Singapore. I provided front line support via live web-chat and email for Apple Care certified technicians. I drew on technical information from groups such as Apple care engineering, service training and documentation with a predominant focus on assisting field technicians with the repair of Apple Products.I identified potential engineering issues and trends in escalations by ongoing analysis and tracking of escalations, and analysis of reports. Currently I am working for Seagate as a technical support specialist. I answer to inbound customer inquiry calls and emails for individual and business Seagate hard drive customers. I work cross-functionally to resolve complex issues in Windows and MacOS environments. One day, I participated in a project in designing a team website to implement integrated trouble shooting. It became a great internal knowledge base for our team. It is also very helpful as all articles written by hands on experience for specific issues. After designing the project, I have trained team members for trouble shooting steps for Apple products, and it was a good opportunity for me to utilize my previous working experience at Apple. I am quite interested in UNIX system administration and database. I want to be a computer science professional who delivers environment friendly, convenient and secure life to the world.Special achievements I have made is that I was promoted to be an advanced network product support team member in Feb 2013. I was Chosen as a top 10 agent of all agents around the world in 2011. My personal aim is to know essential comput er knowledge to lay down the foundation. Furthermore, I wish to learn the computer and its related fields in depth. Actually, that was my hope when I was working as a system operator in a big data center. This was because I ran shell scripts daily but sometimes I did not fully comprehend how it works.I monitored SQL queries yet sometimes I had difficulty to understand it. I would like to build my career at business computer related. However, the requirements I applied were asking a degree in computer science. In addition, I hope to discover a potential and interesting area in computer filed through BCS. I would like to study with Adelaide University as they provide high quality teaching. I believe after graduation of this degree, I will be highly skilled and adaptable with the ability to design computer-based solutions to the problems of information management and processing.

Free Essays on The Electoral College

A major conflict concerning the electoral college lingers in America. The Constitutional Convention created the college in 1789 in hopes that it would be an adequate system (MacBride 29). The electoral college consists of senators and representatives who cast their votes for the state they represent. Those who feel that the college should remain as it is believe that the American people are too uninformed about election issues to vote. The argument for the modification of the college maintains that the people are not actually electing the president, but the larger states are. Ultimately, the majority of the United States citizens support the elimination of an electoral college that serves no purpose in the government. The argument in favor of the continuation of the electoral college holds that it represents an effective institution. First, the format of the college demonstrates its validity. The amount of electoral votes awarded to each state, extremely critical in elections, remains decided by the number of senators and representatives in Congress (Polsby 45). Many politicians find the existing system extremely efficient because they feel the electors well represent their constituents (Best 52). In addition, the electoral college’s ability to efficiently serve its purpose provides a reason for its long existence. â€Å"An electoral system should produce a definite, accepted winner and avoid prolonged contests and disputes that create uncertainty and public turmoil† (Best 210). Moreover, never in the history of the electoral college has a controversy developed in which the college rejected â€Å"an individual who had an undisputed majority of the popular vote† (Best 52). Most importantly, those who agree with preserving the electoral college believe that election by popular vote, the alternative to the college, would create numerous deficiencies in the system. Election by direct popular vote would be â€Å"hazard... Free Essays on The Electoral College Free Essays on The Electoral College A major conflict concerning the electoral college lingers in America. Colleges With September Deadlines Colleges Deadline Eastern Oregon University 9/1 Life University 9/1 If you’re looking to send off a later application, these colleges with late deadlines aren’t the only ones available. Schools with rolling admissions might also still have space for prospective students! Fun with rolling (admissions)! Colleges With Rolling Admissions Unlike the colleges listed above, schools with rolling admissions do not have a set application deadline. Instead, they open a window of time during which they'll accept applications, often from the fall to the spring. Although this policy gives you more flexibility, it’s definitely not a pass to procrastinate. Spaces at rolling admissions schools can fill up, and commonlyadmissions committees give the strongest considerationto students who file their applications early or submit by a priority deadline. A good rule of thumb to use when applying is, "The earlier, the better." Below are some popular schools that use rolling admissions, but they aren’t the only ones! If you’re interested in the full list of rolling admissions colleges, you can find it here. Arizona State Indiana University Bloomington Michigan State Pace Penn State Quinnipiac Texas AM University of Alabama University of Maine University of Minnesota University of New Haven University of Pittsburgh University of Tulsa So there you have it- the full list of schoolswith late application deadlines and a few popular ones with rolling admissions policies.Even if you missed some earlier deadlines, you still have a number of options for a fall college enrollment. Even though these colleges have deadlines that are later than average, you still need to plan and prep your application months before, whether you’re asking for a letter of rec, studying for the SAT, or drafting and revising your personal essay. Furthermore, colleges with rolling admissions might have a priority deadline as early as November. If you’re really serious about a particular school, try toapply as early as possible. An added motivation is the knowledge that, in many cases, the sooner you apply, the sooner you’ll get an admissions decision! If any of the schools above interest you, you might be able to spread out your work and remove some of the pressure from the typical college application season in November and December. At the same time, don’t put off your applications for too long- deadlines have a habit of sneaking up on you before you know it! What’s Next?
